What is an HVAC contractor?

Master HVAC Requirements

As you may know, Serv-Tech is owned and operated by a licensed Master HVACR contractor who has fulfilled the Master HVAC requirements for NJ.

While there are many factors that go into keeping a building comfortable year- round, none are more important than a well-maintained HVAC system.

What Does HVACR stand for?

Heating, ventilation, and air conditioning, the three functions that HVAC systems are comprised of, are often combined into one central system that maintains appropriate temperature and air quality in buildings such as residential homes and offices. Occasionally the abbreviation for refrigeration is included as well, marked by the extended acronym HVACR.

Master HVAC Requirements

HVAC systems serve an integral role in keeping all sorts of structures comfortable and above all, safe. They are also quite complex. This is why it’s important for these systems to be serviced exclusively by a professional HVAC contractor. In addition to servicing HVAC systems, HVAC contractors are also responsible for the installation of new heating, ventilation, and air conditioning systems.

HVAC Training and Licensing

Due to the many intricacies of HVAC systems, it is imperative for a professional HVAC contractor to be properly trained and licensed. The training process for an HVAC contractor begins by attending and graduating from a formal training institution. It is at these institutions that aspiring HVAC contractors are introduced to the ins and outs of the various components that make up HVAC systems. This is typically done through lectures as well as hands-on learning experiences.

HVAC Apprenticeship

The next step in the process of becoming a professional HVAC contractor is apprenticeship. Throughout the course of an apprenticeship, a soon-to-be HVAC contractor will work closely alongside a certified industry professional in order to gain critical on-the-job experience and insight. This ensures that the apprentice contractor will have a thorough understanding of how an HVAC system functions from top to bottom.

HVAC Licensing in New Jersey

After all of the necessary training requirements have been met, an HVAC contractor can apply to be licensed by the state in which they work. Along with meeting the necessary education and on-the-job experience requirements, states that license HVAC contractors also require the contractor to have insurance in the event of any accidental damage or injury.

Often times working on HVAC systems will require contractors to repair or install plumbing in order to supply oil or natural gas to the system’s heating component. As a result of this, certain states require contractors to hold a separate plumbers license in addition to their HVAC license. This is just another one of the many skills that an experienced HVAC contractor should have in order to provide clients with the best service possible.
